Regarding the creation of the materiality analysis on Daato, there are two options: either you conduct it entirely using Daato, or you import results from an externally conducted materiality analysis.
Conducting a Materiality Analysis with Daato:
Once you have created all your stakeholders and assigned them to various sustainability topics, it is time to create your first double materiality analysis!
To do this, click Double Materiality Analysis in the left menu bar, then click New Report and get started after selecting the year for your materiality analysis.
Once the process is complete, click Open, and you can begin the double materiality assessment. Further guidance can be found in this article about the double materiality analysis process.
In this process, you can also, for example, import IROs or manually determine the materiality of the sustainability topics.
Importing External Materiality Analysis (Results):
If you conducted a materiality analysis outside of Daato, you can import the results and the entire documentation as follows:
After clicking New Report in the materiality analysis view, select Import Report.
Report Import Functionality:
Selecting the Import Report option opens a sidebar.
Users can download a template with the following columns:
- Standard: List of standards with their category (Environmental/Social/Governance), e.g., Environmental: Climate. Additional options:
- Environmental: Company-specific
- Social: Company-specific
- Governance: Company-specific
- Sustainability Topic
- Impact Materiality: Not material | Very low | Low | Medium | High | Very high
- Explanation of Impact Materiality
- Financial Materiality: Not material | Very low | Low | Medium | High | Very high
- Explanation of Financial Materiality
The template comes pre-filled with all standard sustainability topics (only the first two columns are filled).
Language Support:
If your tool's language is set to German, the template will be downloaded with all column names, choices, and pre-selected sustainability topics in German.
Spreadsheet Validation:
When uploading, the spreadsheet is validated. If rows contain errors, an error message will display the row numbers with validation issues. Upon successful validation, users can submit the file.
Additional Documentation:
Users can upload additional documents via the Upload Documentation field.
Important to Note: Difference from the Regular Workflow
The import function is intended to bring the results of an already completed materiality assessment into the tool in order to continue working with them directly in the reporting.
Important: The standard workflow in the tool for conducting the materiality assessment is fully bypassed. This means:
- Steps 1 to 3 (i.e. narrowing down sustainability topics, identifying and assessing IROs, and stakeholder engagement) are not carried out.
- These steps are shown as completed, even if they contain no content.
- Only Step 4 displays the imported results – specifically, the materiality and the corresponding justifications for each sustainability topic as defined in the import template.
You can still open and edit each step manually afterwards – for example, to upload IROs in Step 2 or to add further information.
Report Creation:
Once the spreadsheet is completed, and both it and any additional documents are uploaded, a new materiality analysis will be created for the year specified in the year selection dropdown of the import template.
The materiality analysis includes:
- All sustainability topics considered according to their defined materiality.
- Company-specific topics created by users and assigned to the appropriate category.
- No IROs.
- Any additional documents stored in connection with the report.
Post-Import Processing:
After successfully processing the import:
- A success message will display: "Report successfully imported" (or translation).
- The report overview will be updated in the frontend.
- If additional documents are included, they will be added, and a Download Documentation option will appear in the Download dropdown menu in Step 4. The button label for Download will change to Actions.
Completion:
Once the report is created, all steps are completed.
Frequently Asked Questions:
- Can I upload IROs after uploading the materiality analysis results as described in Step 2 above?
Yes, this is possible, but the results or materiality assessments for the sustainability topics, which were defined with the upload of the entire materiality analysis, will remain and will not be overwritten by the IRO upload.
