Selecting the right activities

Modified on Tue, 17 Sep, 2024 at 11:07 AM

The Taxonomy Regulation lists various business activities that have the potential to contribute to one (or more) of the six environmental objectives. You should assess which economic activities your company fulfills or is involved in, or in which areas you have CAPEX or OPEX expenditures.

For example, if your company produces cement, the category "Manufacture of cement" would be particularly relevant in terms of revenue. If, on the other hand, you operate photovoltaic systems and generate electricity, this would be relevant for your company. If no taxonomy activities match your business activities, the assessment is complete, and you do not have the possibility to achieve taxonomy alignment.

How does it work on Daato?

Daato presents the taxonomy activities in the software as a list and enables you to select the activities relevant to your company.

What should be considered?

It is important to note that each activity can contribute to only one (!) of the six environmental objectives of the taxonomy. Most activities are only listed under one environmental objective, but some activities appear multiple times in the list (see the following screenshots). The information icon will indicate which environmental objective the activity contributes to. This will later affect the questions in the context of the taxonomy alignment assessment.

For example, the activity "Renovation of existing buildings" can contribute to the environmental objective "Climate Change Mitigation" (CCM 7.2) as well as the objective "Contribution to the Circular Economy" (CE 3.2). You will ultimately need to decide which of the activities (potentially both) is relevant for you. For this, you can use the Excel list at the end of this article, which describes the activities in more detail. An explanation follows after the screenshots.

Are you unsure which activities are relevant for you?

You can decide which of your business activities are taxonomy-eligible with the help of the Excel document attached to this article. In it, you will find:

- A tab for each environmental objective

- Names of the activities (as well as sectors, etc.)

- Descriptions of the activities

Based on these criteria, you can decide which activities are relevant and to which environmental objective they contribute.
