Sustainability Update: European Commission adopts the revised ESRS and new Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard (VS)
Modified on Mon, 6 Jul at 5:43 PM
(06.07.2026)
On 3 July 2026, the European Commission officially adopted the revised European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) together with the new Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard (VS).
The adoption came earlier than many expected and marks an important milestone following the discussions around the Omnibus package. Companies now have clarity on the final ESRS, although the standards are not yet formally in force.
What happens next?
The revised ESRS will now enter a two-month scrutiny period by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union.
During this period:
- the Delegated Act can only be accepted or rejected
- no amendments can be introduced
- if no objections are raised, the revised ESRS will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union
- the revised standards will then formally enter into force
What does this mean for the EQS Sustainability Cockpit?
Over the past months, we have continuously expanded our support for the Simplified ESRS Draft (EFRAG, November 2025). Many of these capabilities already provide the foundation for working with the newly adopted Simplified ESRS Delegated Act 2026.
Following the official adoption of the revised ESRS, our Product and Sustainability teams are currently analysing the final Delegated Act in detail and comparing it with the draft version that is already supported in the platform.
Our Product and Sustainability teams are working on implementing the final changes across the platform, including updates to questionnaires, disclosure requirements, datapoints and migration capabilities wherever required.
While we are already making the necessary preparations for the implementation, we expect additional implementation materials to be published in the coming weeks—most notably the updated EFRAG IG3 Datapoint List. These materials will be incorporated into the final implementation of the revised ESRS within the EQS Sustainability Cockpit.
We will keep you informed about:
- upcoming platform updates
- migration options
- recommended next steps
- availability of the final ESRS implementation
Looking ahead: Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard (VS)
Alongside the revised ESRS, the European Commission also adopted the new Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard (VS).
We are currently preparing the implementation of the VS within the EQS Sustainability Cockpit and are analysing the new standard and defining the implementation roadmap to ensure comprehensive support within the platform.
