How to get started with the new CO2-footprinting workflow
Modified on Mon, 1 Sep at 12:45 PM
The EQS Sustainability Cockpit has introduced a redesigned CO₂ reporting workflow that makes carbon footprint reporting more intuitive and efficient. We've created comprehensive tutorials to guide you through every aspect of the new system, from creating your first report to generating final compliance documentation.
What's New?
The previous "Data collection" area has been transformed into a streamlined "Reports" section with a clear four-step workflow designed around GHG Protocol requirements. This approach simplifies the reporting process while maintaining full compliance with emission scope standards.
Getting Started
Creating Your First Report Learn how to set up a new carbon footprint report in the redesigned system. This covers accessing the new Reports section, setting up reporting periods, and using the "Copy values from existing report" feature to streamline your setup process.
Step-by-Step Guides
Step 1: Assigning Scopes Configure which emission scopes each entity in your organization should report on. Learn how to toggle scopes on and off for individual entities, ensuring that subsidiaries only see the scopes relevant to their operations. This focused approach makes the data entry process much clearer for everyone involved.
Step 2: Assigning Activities Define the specific activities your entities will report data on. Choose between bulk Excel uploads for efficiency or manual assignment for precision. See how to use your company's internal terminology for activities and work with AI-based emission factor suggestions. Also covers setting up Market-based versus Location-based emissions for Scope 2 reporting.
Step 3: Collecting Data Monitor and manage data collection progress across your entire organization with the new oversight tools. Navigate the organization-wide progress view, understand accuracy scores and data quality metrics, and drill down into individual entity submissions. You can also edit activities and emission factors during the collection process if needed.
Step 4: Reviewing Data Complete your final review and verification process before generating official reports. This covers the structured data review methodology, final accuracy checks, and preparation for official reporting and certifications. It's your final checkpoint to ensure everything is accurate and audit-ready.

How to Use This Guide
Follow the step-by-step guides in order as you work through your actual report, and refer back to specific sections as needed during your reporting process.
For those who prefer written instructions, we also have a detailed step by step written guide that covers the same workflow with screenshots and detailed explanations. Additionally, our helpdesk contains articles addressing specific issues and advanced features you might encounter during your reporting process.
Each tutorial includes practical examples and common scenarios to help you apply the concepts to your specific organizational structure. After completing this guide, you'll be fully equipped to set up efficient CO₂ reporting structures, assign appropriate scopes and activities, monitor data collection progress, and generate accurate GHG Protocol-compliant reports.
