Didn't find the right emission factor?
Modified on Fri, 5 Sep at 9:52 AM
Daato works with the provider Climatiq to offer a broad database of emissions factors. Climatiq aggregates data from various emissions factor databases, such as BEIS, GHG Protocol, and others. Daato has established a framework agreement with Climatiq to provide all Daato customers access to this database.
While this is the best approach from Daato's perspective to provide as many emissions factors as possible, there are two reasons why it cannot always be guaranteed that you will find emissions factors for every activity:
- No emissions factor exists for the activity, not only in Climatiq but in any other database as well.
- Climatiq and its offered databases do not include an emissions factor for the activity, but it might be available in other databases.
Handling the Lack of Emissions Factors
There are different ways to handle the issue of missing emissions factors:
- If you find or already have an emissions factor for the activity from outside Daato and Climatiq, you can manually add it to Daato.
- If you do not have an external emissions factor, you can search for activities in other regions similar to your own (e.g., search for an activity in a neighboring country) or look for similar activities in your region.

Why don’t I see all the emission factors available on Climatiq?
Climatiq is essentially an aggregator of various emission factor databases, consolidating them on a single platform. Climatiq offers different packages that customers can use. Daato utilizes the standard package, which includes around 16,000 emission factors. This means it does not include all databases offered by Climatiq, such as the expensive Ecoinvent database, which is particularly useful for product carbon footprints.
How often are the emission factors updated?
Daato uploads an updated version of the emission factors every six months. However, these updates do not apply to ongoing reports but can be used for new reports.
