Assess each impact, risk and opportunity

Modified on Wed, 18 Jun at 9:50 AM

Once you have added all your impacts, risks and opportunities, it is time to assess them.

You will once again find the same structure, with your three E, S and G categories, with a report on how far are we with completing all your IROs assessment. Click on “Assess IROs” to access the list you had previously built.

Once in the category, you have access to the same dropdown per ESRS standards and sustainability matters. Access the assessment of each impact, risk or opportunity by clicking on “Assess”.

For each impact, risk or opportunity, there is a questionnaire with this assessment scheme that you can fill in to provide details about the type of impact, risk or opportunity and then use a structured methodology to assess the materiality of the respective IRO. You can also enter explanations and upload documents to support the assessment.

The impact assessment takes into account the extent, scope, irreversibility and, if applicable, the probability of occurrence. Based on the information provided, Daato calculates the materiality level of the impact.

When assessing risks and opportunities, the probability of occurrence and the extent of the expected financial impact are taken into account. Based on the information provided, Daato calculates the materiality level of the risk or opportunity.

Once your questions are filled out, you will get your results on the top right.

You are now ready to go ahead with the other IROs from the list!

Involving Stakeholders

You can also seek support and involve your stakeholders when evaluating the IROs. Unlike the previous steps, this is not done through a survey, but rather via the "Collaboration" feature in Daato. To do this, click on "Evaluate" next to one of the IROs and then on "Start Collaboration." To get this started, you need to complete the answers in step 1 of the assessment, including whether the impact is positive or negative, potential or actual, etc. Only then can the collaboration begin.

You can now involve relevant stakeholders to assist you in this evaluation, leave a message, give the query a title, and set a deadline.

The recipients can then add their responses to all evaluation criteria, which you will see under each respective entry.

Afterward, you can decide which stakeholder inputs you want to include in your final evaluation.

Assess IROs manually

If you have already conducted a materiality analysis outside of Daato and want to import IROs or evaluate them manually without going through Daato's questionnaire, you can do this as follows:

Select the IRO by clicking on the box in front of the IRO and then click on "Edit Evaluation Manually."

Adjust the materiality rating of the IRO, leave a justification, and upload documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which questions are assigned to stakeholders when I choose collaboration at the overall page level?
Stakeholders receive all questions for response except for the IRO details already answered in Step 2—specifically, whether the impact is positive or negative, whether it is potential or actual, and the timeframe of the IRO. However, additional input on the timeframe can still be collected.

Why are stakeholder responses in Step 3 of the collaboration process not automatically transferred to the response fields?
The collaboration feature allows multiple people to work together simultaneously, not just one person. Because responses from different stakeholders may vary, the data is not automatically transferred to the final response field but is displayed below it and must be manually entered by the admin.

Why is a Human Rights related matter only shown when I evaluate a "potential" impact and not an "actual" impact?

Because a Human Rights impact is only relevant for the calculation of Impact-Materiality in cases of potential impacts, not actual impacts, as the likelihood carries less relevance than the severity in the calculation for potential impacts if it is a human rights-related impact. See the decision tree and the calculation logic:

If it is a potential negative impact related to human rights, likelihood has less relevance. Daato uses a weighting of 2:1, thus:

Materiality = (Likelihood + Severity*2) / 2
